SAM Part Two - Sam & Kat Down Under

We re-join Sam & Kat in Australia….

SAM JOHNSON

It’s been a few days since we landed in Australia and we have now bedded into quarantine. We’re hiding in a leafy town outside of Melbourne that as far as I can tell looks like the neighbours’ set. However, having not seen any other part of Australia I’ve got no idea if this statement is fair or even true. Importantly we are not showing symptoms of corona virus, however despite this the slightest splutter or sneeze triggers paranoid looks at each other.

There is now time to accept the now blindingly obvious facts: our round the world trip ambitions are over, for the time being. I’m gutted. We’ve worked exceptionally hard to get here and having just got just over half way it’s unlikely we will have the opportunity to do this again, at least on this scale.

But. Perspective is key and as daily reports come in of empty shelves, increased isolation restrictions and rising death tolls it’s a long way from the worst thing happening in the world right now.

Australia is also a long way from the worse place to be. We’ve been lucky - welcomed in by friends who have been brave enough to risk infection to offer us food and shelter (and whiskey). We will now try to repay their kindness by helping them with their home decorating renovations. However my biggest hope is that we haven’t brought the virus with us!

For now we sit tight like everyone else and pray things get better.
