What I’ve Learnt
KATY
I turned 30 last year, or rather Peter and I turned 30 last year. The thing with being a twin, the first lesson I ever learnt, is you don’t do things alone. I can’t speak outside of my condition of being a twin but I think this may be a universal truth - you’re not, all considered, that alone. Even during our so called Social Isolation.
Here is Peter & I perfecting the the idea of two people together on two very difficult planes.
Below are a few things I’ve picked up along the way. It is meant to entertain more than educate and please remember, I definitely have a lot more to learn.
Steady work, steady holidays.
You’re allowed to sit this one out.
Be kind, or at least try to be kind.
You can go on adventures, solo or with others.
See the best in people, even if you do nothing with this information.
Plan. Honestly, just do the ‘leg work’, ‘prep’, ‘lists’.
Clean the toilet.
Any damned fool can be uncomfortable. Don’t be a damned fool.
Be the main character in your story.
Be interesting and interested.
Don’t waste a meal.
Listen more.
Take other people’s feelings seriously.
Pets - whatever that means to you - are a Good Thing.
Pack hand luggage, I cannot emphasise this enough. Unless of course you don’t want to.
Fashion is as meaningful as you want it to be. Ditto the size of your body.
Books are a good hiding place. Ditto the internet. Ditto television. Ditto anywhere, but only so long as you need a hiding place.
Laugh, where possible.
Say sorry and mean it.
Christmas is the proof that the journey is sometimes better than the destination.
